Join us for a stakeholder event hosted by Alcohol Focus Scotland and Obesity Action Scotland discussing the challenges and solutions to marketing of alcohol and junk food to our children.
Speaker: Maria Piacentini, Professor of Consumer Research at Lancaster University
Maria’s research and teaching lie in the field of consumer behaviour, specifically focusing on areas of public policy concern such as vulnerable consumers, alcohol consumption and healthy eating. Maria is co-editor of ‘Consumer Vulnerability: Conditions, Contexts and Characteristics', a book which considers consumer vulnerability and key life stages, health and wellbeing, poverty, and exclusion. In her presentation she will focus on the marketing of alcohol to young people, and explore how this exposure influences children and young people’s attitudes and behaviours in relation to alcohol.
Speaker: Dan Parker, Living Loud
For 20 years Dan Parker worked in the marketing and advertising of junk food and fizzy drinks. In 2014 Dan was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He now campaigns for a reduction in sugar consumption and to improve outcomes for people with obesity. In a shocking and entertaining presentation he'll demonstrate a few of the advertising techniques used to create an obesogenic environment and ask what we can do to stop it.
This event is free and refreshments will be provided.
